California Contemporary
2017
painted architectural model, mirrored plexiglass
This work was prompted by the sale of my childhood home in preparation for my family’s move. In framing the construction of memorials as the continuous inversion of destruction, this piece endlessly reconstructs a miniature model of the house, a 1960 L-shaped plan based on the California Contemporary model constructed by Sholz Homes around the country. The endless reconstruction then also references the ubiquity of this model home and how it has since become ingrained in the memories of a generation.
This site-specific installation was created for the window niches of Granoff Center for the Arts at Brown.
